The All Progressive Congress (APC) has acknowledged petitions from 20 aspirants of the party in the forthcoming election in Kogi State.

In a release made available to News Hub Mag! and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party assured that, “The NWC will look at the merit of the petitions in line with the party’s constitution and come out with a position in due course.”

The statement thanked the aggrieved APC stakeholders in the state for the peaceful manner in which they have conducted themselves and for their trust in the NWC to do the right thing.

“It needs restating that the APC Constitution which was reemphasized by a decision of National Executive Committee provides for three modes of primaries to elect party candidates -Indirect, Direct primaries and consensus- depending on the peculiarities of the state and preferences of the stakeholders in respective elections.

“We assure all concerned parties that the NWC would be guided only by our rules,” the party said.

News Hub Mag! recalls that 20 gubernatorial aspirants of the party had earlier staged a peaceful protest on Monday at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The protesters under the aegis of Kogi State APC Governorship Aspirants Forum had expressed displeasure over the indirect primary adopted by the National Working Committee of the APC for the governorship election in Kogi State slated for November this year.

In a letter addressed to the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, the forum warned that the indirect primary adopted by the party would have serious negative consequence on the fortune of the party in the state.
