No fewer than 100 houses have been submerged by flood at Isale Adetohunwa Area, Taiwo Isale, Okaka ward 1 in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Speaking with News Hub Mag! on Tuesday the Magaji Adetohunwa community, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Abiodun said that the flood had destroyed properties worth millions of naira in the community.

He explained that residents of the community had vacated their houses for their safety because their houses were no more habitable.

The community head added that Adetohunwa community that had been in existence for more than 200 years, had been experiencing yearly flood for over ten years.

He blamed the problem of year flooding in the community on failure of previous governments to extend the channelization and dredging of Asa River to the community.

He called on the present administration to extend the channelization and dredging of Asa River to the community as a way of finding a lasting solution to annual flooding.

One of the elders in the community, Alhaji Salman Adebayo Akande thanked God that no life was loss to the flood.

He however noted with displeasure that the yearly loss of properties had created untold hardship to the residents of the community.

Akande made a passionate appeal to the state governor to urgently rescue them from what he described as unbearable hardship.

Also speaking, Alhaji Salami Agbaje appealed to government to ensure that channelization and dredging was extended to Adetohunwa community.

He said that the residents could not relocate to a safer place because of financial implications of purchasing land and building houses.

The representative of women in the community, Alhaja Afusat Kareem Banni and Mrs Elizabeth Titcombe said that many houses had collapsed due to the flood, while others are very weak thereby leaving the residents in a serious panic.

They appealed to the state governor to urgently come to their aid because life was becoming unbearable for them.

News Hub Mag! recalls that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had earlier predicted that some states of the federation including Kwara would experience flood this year.
