Easter, time for sober reflections – Rev Malomo

The Minister-In-Charge of 12th ECWA Church, Alagbede, Ilorin, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Malomo, has said Christians must look beyond the felicitation and focus on the reason for the season.

In a chat with News Hub Mag! Rev. Malomo stated that, “This is a time to acknowledge the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary. He died to set us free from eternal damnation. Jesus died, was buried and resurrected the third day as attested to in 1 Cor. 15:3-8, 12-19.

“Resurrection is the power of God. As death is a mystery so resurrection is the greatest mystery of redemption. Prior to resurrection one must die, death takes life into captivity but resurrection brings freedom to life.

“Only God can exert the power of resurrection through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. To die physically is human, but spiritual death is disastrous because unless a man is born again, he is due to die physically and spiritually as attested to in Luke 16:19-31 and Heb. 9:27.

“Death is not within human control, Jesus came from heaven to die for us as the scriptures says in John 3:13-18, for all have sinned in Adam and fall short of the glory of God also in Romans 3:23. But God demonstrated His love for us while we are still sinners, Jesus died for us, Romans 5:8. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“Also, just as Moses lifted up the (bronze) Snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, John 3:14. Jesus Christ is the Son of Man who died to set humanity free. He is the way, the truth and the life no one comes to the father except by him (John 14: 6).

“Through His resurrection we have assurance of eternity. Let us as adherent of faith in Jesus to be herald of peace and love Jesus gave to us. His delight is to see us reflecting his character and imbibe by his solemn attitudes here on earth.”

News Hub Mag! reports that the cleric urged Nigerians, especially Christians, to love their neighbours as themselves and show the light of Christ to the world looming with darkness and uncertainty. “May the Lord bless us and increase us in fulfilling his ordinance as we celebrate his resurrection this year. Happy Easter,” he said.
