Urges Governor to expedite grading, upgrading of traditional rulers

Sequel to the announcement by the Ilorin Emirate Palliatives Fund to distribute palliatives to communities in the emirate the entire people of Moro LGA have warned against the inclusion of the LGA as beneficiaries of the palliatives.

A press statement made available to News Hub Mag! and signed by the President, Moro Students’ Union, Comrade Abiodun Adeleye Adesina, noted that it is hypocritical of the Ilorin Emirate to masquerade as a messiah to the people of Moro, when it is the same Ilorin Emirate that is behind the degrading and non-grading of the traditional rulers in the LGA, deduction and appropriation of the 5 percent Federal statutory allocation to the traditional rulers in the LGA, and other exploitative acts, which had under-developed and impoverished the people.

Abiodun, who decried the emirate’s initiative, explained that Moro people are of pure Yoruba ancestry and have no link with the Fulani emirate structure, adding that the Local Government is only comfortable with Yoruba cultural practice.

The statement further said, “We expect the Ilorin emirate to have, by now, quit this game of oppression and marginalization unleashed on the people of Moro at this age when campaign for justice, equity and fairness is rampant the world over.

“We therefore appeal to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to expedite action on the grading and upgrading of traditional rulers and creation of traditional rulers’ Council in the Local Government Area.

“We urge our peace loving and justice advocate Governor to earnestly come to the aid of the people by putting a stop to all the mechanisms used by the Ilorin Emirate to subjugate the monarchs in the LGA.”

While expressing the fear of a backdoor distribution of the palliatives in the LGA, the statement implored all the targeted recipients of the palliatives in the LGA to reject the items, saying that the scheme is a bait to lure them to eternal slavery.

Comrade Adesina also praised the Ohoro of Shao, HRH Oba (Dr.) Bamidele Adegbite, the Oba of Jebba, HRH Alhaji  Abdulquadir Adebara, and other traditional rulers in the Local Government Area for ensuring that their people comply with the government’s lockdown order, praying that the nation and the world will soon overcome the coronavirus pandemic.
