The Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Adetiba Raphael Olalekan says the remedy to the ravaging coronavirus pandemic is hinged on the collective efforts of both government and the citizens.

Adetiba in an exclusive chat with News Hub Mag! commended the ingenuity of the state governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasak in handling the situation in the state. He pointed out that the technical committee in the forefront of the fight headed by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi also deserves a pat on the back for a job well done.

According to him, it is imperative for all Kwarans to join hands together with the state government in tackling this menace for the sake of all and sundry.

“According to experts Coronavirus is resistant to all available antibiotics, so while in search for the cure, it is important that we break the chain of spread and the only way to achieve this is to obey expert directives.

“I strongly believe that overcoming this pandemic is hinged on team work, government and citizens must see one another as partners in the fight against the novel coronavirus. This is the only way we can win this fight.

“And the rate at which our victory comes depends on the level of our cooperation with safety measures. When we all play our parts correctly as a team, we will soon be rid of this pandemic and be able to get our lives back,” he stated.

The member representing Oke-Ero constituency, however, agreed that for people to stay at home government, leaders and other stakeholders must provide some palliatives to cushion the rigours and pains of the people

“We are also not unawares of the yearnings of the people because as a grassrooter, I know what is peculiar to my people; 80 percent of Oke-Ero residents are farmers and artisans who live on their daily earnings so, we have to show love and support to them.

“We may not have the resources that can cater for every household but it is a must that we do our best to touch a very large body of people so that we don’t promote crime in the society as hunger is never a thing to toy with.

“That is why I don’t just sit in Ilorin, I go to my constituency every week to check the level of compliance on government regulation, ensuring that lives are protected and most importantly, to indentify with my people, share in their pains and support with the little I have,” he disclosed.

In the same vein, he appreciated his colleagues in the House for following the steps of the Governor by providing palliatives to their various constituents.

He further disclosed that members of the 9th Assembly in the state had used their salaries to buy food items, hand gloves, hand sanitizer and others and also sensitized their constituencies.

He then advised Kwarans to continue to adhere strictly to the rules of social distancing, proper hygiene, use of sanitizers and every other step so as to flatten the curve of transmission in the state and the country as a whole.
