Court slams N5million damages on IGP, others for assaulting Kwara lawyer

The Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has today, slammed a five million-naira damages against the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, and seven others, over an assault on a legal practitioner, Lukman Bello.

The judge, Justice Babangana Ashigar, who presided over the matter also ordered the police to tender a letter of apology to Bello.

Justice Ashigar, granted perpentual injunction restraining the respondent from further arresting, assaulting, torturing or holding Bello on detention over the matter.

Speaking with News Hub Mag! after the judgement, a member of Bello’s legal team, Barrister Y.K Iyanda, expressed satisfaction over the judgement.

News Hub Mag! recalls that Bello had earlier approached the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, to demand for the sum of N50million from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command and six others as compensation, over alleged brutality he suffered from the police at the Force Training School, Ilorin, while trying to secure bail of his client.
