‘Kano is in trouble’ – Gov. Ganduje cries out

by newshubmag

As the number of confirmed cases in Nigeria soared up to 2558, with 400 discharged and 87 deaths as at 12am, 3rd May 2020, as announced by NCDC, Kano recorded 29 of the new 170 cases, keeping the state second on the table of confirmed COVID- 19 cases across the country, just behind Lagos state.

Meanwhile Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, has blamed the mass spread of the virus to the delay encountered in getting test done for residents of the state.

News Hub Mag! recalls that hundreds of people reportedly died in Kano, with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, yesterday stated that the ravaging coronavirus may be the cause of their deaths.

Speaking in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, Ganduje lamented that the state is in trouble due to the mass outbreak of the virus in the state. Anwar quoted the governor to have said this during the presentation of a mobile COVID-19 Testing Centre donated to the state by Aliko Dangote.

He said, “There is no doubt that Kano is in trouble.

“And there is no doubt that we started on a shaky foundation.

“When samples were taken to Abuja for 7 hours and came back again in 7 hours, that was the shaky foundation I am talking about.

“We then lodged our complaint to President Muhammadu Buhari, who ordered for the establishment of a Testing Centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, which after take-off was shut down for some days if not weeks.

“That was what escalated the transmission of the disease up to community transmission.”

He however assured residents that with the capability of Bayero University to test about 200 samples daily and the Mobile Testing Centre donated by Dangote, capable of testing about 400 samples per day with the addition of AKTH testing centre, the state is making headway in facing the situation squarely.
