KWSG takes COVID-19 sensitization to grassroots

.As KWCSDA distributes face masks, sanitizers to communities, groups

In its bid to further ensure that residents of the state are fully aware and take precautions against the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency yesterday embarked on a sensitization tour of communities in the state.

News Hub Mag! reports that the state-wide sensitization tour was kick started at Esinlore community in Asa Local Government Area of the state. The agency also took the enlightenment programme  to groups including Oloruntoba, Olorunda community and Agbajowo in Ogele; both  in Asa LGA.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager of the State Agency, Engineer Amamat Oluwatoyin-Haruna stressed that the state government will not renege in its efforts to curtail the further spread of the virus in the state.

Engr. Haruna explained that the essence of the initiative is to support the state government in its effort to curtail the spread of COVID-19, through awareness campaign in rural areas.

She said, “this sensitization is very necessary at this critical time because the virus is deadly and presently there is no cure.”

The agency boss harped on the need for personal hygiene and adherence to government precautionary measures, urging people to show high sense of responsibility as they play their part in curbing spread of the virus.

She stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to stop the spread of coronavirus especially through community transmission.

She therefore enjoined the people of the community to always observe social distancing, washing of hands and using of face masks when in the public to keep safe from the disease 

In her remarks, the Project Officer Gender and Vulnerability, Hajia Hauwa Kulu-Aliyu also urged the people of the community to adhere to the stay at home directive by the state government to contain the spread of coronavirus in the state.

Aliyu who noted that the stay-at-home order by government has affected economic life of Kwarans, urged people to maintain high moral values. She hinted on the psycho-social effect of the lockdown directive of government, calling for tolerance and peaceful co-existence among couples.

Hajia Kulu-Aliyu further counselled on the use of hydrogen peroxide, spirit and water to make their own hand sanitizers to reduce the cost of purchasing the product.

Also speaking, the Project Officer Supervision, Mr David Babalola said the state government has set up various preventive and safety mechanisms, including establishing and equipping an isolation centre in Ilorin and Offa local government area of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, the chairmen of Oloruntoba group and Esinlore community, Alhaji Saliu Folorunsho Olori and Mallam Isiaka Ishola commended the state government on the steps taken so far to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Coordinator of supervising Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) of Agbajowo Group, Mrs. Bright Olubo also commended KWCSDA for the laudable initiative.

The group visited include Esinlore community in Lasoju, Oloruntoba group in Olorunda Community and Agbajowo group in Ogele all in Asa local government area of the state.

The respondents all expressed happiness over the various intervention projects facilitated by the agency into their communities and groups such as electricity, water project and construction of skill acquisition centre, among others.

News Hub Mag! reports that highlights of the programme were the presentation of face masks and hand sanitizers to community/group leaders and demonstration of hand washing by the General Manager, as well as tutorial on how to make homemade hand sanitizer.
