Rotary Clubs get commendation over renovation of examination hall

The Rotary Club, Ilorin Metro District 9125 and Rotary Club, Ilorin GRA District have been commended over the renovation of the examination hall of Government Day Secondary School, Gaa-Akanbi, Ilorin.

The principal of the school, Hajia F.M. Ayedun gave the commendation during the commissioning of the school hall which was jointly renovated by the two clubs.

Ayedun said that the school management was very impressed over the renovation of the school examination hall, adding that the gesture would go a long way in providing a conducive learning environment for the students.

The Principal particularly appreciated the clubs on its efforts in the education sector and other humanitarian gestures.

She described the Rotary clubs as group of individuals who are committed to achieve success in terms of humanitarian services.

She added that the intervention would not only provide quick response to immediate challenges, but also lift some burden off the government.

Commissioning the project, the District Governor for Rotary Club 2019-2020, District 9125, Nigeria, Dr. Victor Chukwuemeka Onukwugha, said that Rotary’s core target was to provide humanitarian services to the people in the  areas of education and literacy, water sanitation, disease control and maternal and child health care, economic empowerment, peace and conflict resolution.

While commending Rotary club of Ilorin metro and Rotary club of Ilorin GRA over the project, he said the project was in tandem with core targets of the club because it falls under education and literacy.

“All the clubs in Ilorin have been doing one thing or the other to fill the gap or provide services where the government has failed”. 

The President Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro, District 9125, Nigeria who also Head, Department of Community Health Science, Kwara State University, Malete, Dr. Khadijat ‘Toyin Musah, said that the clubs decided to renovate the school hall in line with the need assessment of the school.

Dr. Musah who is also the Director, Center for Paramedics Programme for Emergency Medical Intervention, Kwara State University, Malete, said  that Rotary Clubs encourage collaboration that would foster good activities and cheaper for the execution of club’s projects.

According to her “in Rotary, some people think we are rich but when you have the mind to give back to your community, it is as good as you are rich. So, it gladdens my heart as a President to see this project completed. It will interest you to know that this is third project as far as my club is concerned”.

Also speaking, President from RC Ilorin GRA, Rotarian Ayo Olagunju urged the school to make good use of the project.

Former Military Governor, Col. Theophilus Bamigboye; District Governor-elect, Barrister Jumoke Bamigboye; Assistant Governor, John Waya; Assistant Governor, Rotary Club International, AG Olalekan Fatai; Connect President from RC Ilorin GRA, Rotarian Ayo Olagunju; Alhaji Zakari A. Musah, Board of Directors and members of Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro and a host of other Rotarians in Kwara State were in attendance during the commissioning.
